Very successful October BC ARES meeting!

Hello, everyone!

KEØLMY here!

We would first like to thank all of the Hams who attended the October Benton County, MO ARES meeting: KDØCNC, WØYGH, KDØWXT, KDØIWM, KEØLMY, KEØLMZ, NØPCT, KDØAFI, KDØAFJ, KAØDXU, WA5ICX, KBØLW, KEØNIL, and KJ5ZW.

It was quite a turnout and we look forward to welcoming you all back and hope to see more faces at our November meeting!

We covered a long list of topics.

-The group voted to have both polo shirts and emergency vests made with the ARES logo and their names/callsigns.

-We discussed running KD0CNC’s emergency trailer at Drake Harbor for Warsaw’s Pioneer Heritage Days festival on October 21-22, 2017. We currently have five volunteers arranged for Saturday and Sunday to man the trailer and we have at least five to monitor the 146.925 repeater so we can make third party contacts. We are still looking for volunteers for both, so feel free to use the Contact Us section if you wish to help with this great opportunity of sharing our hobby with the public! We will be bringing a J-Pole antenna to show and we would love to have someone bring a “tape measure” antenna for fox hunting.

-W0YGH discussed everyone taking the required ICS training. If there is enough interest, we may do a group training at an upcoming meeting.

-KA0DXU discussed CW training. If there is enough interest, we may do a group training at an upcoming meeting.

-We will now have a Member Spotlight section on the website where we will spotlight a member, including their license, what they use ham radio for, who they are and their interests. We’re interested in our members! Stay tuned for details!

-Having interacted with the BSoA, we will be reaching out to the Girl Scouts of America and the local FFAs to offer our service, teaching, and interaction. Our goal is to get more young people involved!

-Also on our networking list, we are going to contact the cities of Lincoln and Cole Camp to connect the BC ARES resource/website to both if possible.

-Our next meeting will be on November 11, 2017 at 9:00 AM at the Benton County Health Department. A list of topics will follow in a later post.
